SPORT
Whatever your sport is – and maybe you haven’t discovered it yet – get inspired, energised and follow in the footsteps of world champions in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The Park will contain five state-of-the-art sporting venues: the Stadium, Aquatics Centre, Copper Box, the Lee Valley VeloPark and the Lee Valley Hockey Centre and Tennis Centre. These venues will provide exceptional training facilities for local people as well as visitors, and they will also become centres of excellence for elite athletes continuing the sporting legacy of London 2012.
Only here will you be able to learn and play sports in the very places where history was made. Imagine taking a morning dip in the Aquatics Centre; in the lane next to you athletes could be training for the next World Championships. Or how about cycling the same tracks on which the world’s best fought their way to Olympic glory? When you’re trying to lead a healthier lifestyle, inspiration counts.
For spectators, the action won’t stop once the summer of 2012 is over. The World Athletics Championships have already been confirmed for the Stadium in 2017. And the inaugural London Cycling Festival in 2013 is set to become as big an event as the London Marathon in years to come.
The first major international sporting event to happen on the Park is the 2015 EuroHockey Championships in the Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre.
