Opening: Waterways

Before the London 2012 Games, the Lee Valley’s historic waterways were cleaned and refurbished.

Its historic network of waterways is part of the fabric of the Lee Valley, and these have been dramatically refurbished. Dredging removed over 30,000 tonnes of silt, gravel and rubbish, and 5km of riverbanks were enhanced or replaced. All this means the 8.35km of waterways will be fully accessible for visitors to enjoy – whether from the bank or out in a canoe, rowing boat or kayak.
